PATERSON — Two men were shot dead in the city six hours apart on Sunday.
In a shooting just before 2:30 a.m., a 22-year-old man was fatally wounded in the area of River and East 13th streets. In addition to the fatality, officials said, a 24-year-old man and a 33-year-old man were taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center with gunshot wounds. It appears those two men were taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
Around 8:30 a.m., Paterson police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle near 18th Avenue and East 28th Street and found a 33-year-old Paterson man in the driver's seat dead, with a gunshot wound to the head. The death is being treated as a homicide.
The prosecutor did not release the names of the deceased.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson police Officer in Charge Isa Abbassi said the investigations into both shootings are "active and ongoing" and more information will be released when it becomes available.
Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to call 877-370-PCPO or the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120. Information can also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
These are the fourth and fifth homicides and 28th and 29th shooting incidents this year in the city, according to Paterson Press' statistics and the prosecutor's press releases. Last year the city at this point had recorded 10 homicides and 34 shootings in which someone was injured or killed.
