Paterson teachers vote to ratify new contract

PATERSON — Members of the city's teachers’ union voted overwhelmingly last week to ratify a contract that would give them 4% and 3.5% annual pay raises for five years.

How the vote went: The vote was 1,856 in favor of the contract and 164 opposed, according to a message union leaders sent to members.

What the union said: “Contracts are never easy to resolve,” said John McEntee Jr., president of the Paterson Education Association. “However, this contract accomplishes many of the members’ goals that they sought from the union.”
