Paterson's P-Tech classes forced to relocate after nearby fire at Pickle King

PATERSON — The 196 students who attend Paterson’s P-Tech high school had classes at Passaic County Community College on Monday because of lingering smoke from the weekend fire at a nearby pickle factory.

What happened Monday: Classes were held in the college’s gym and auditorium, with a 1 p.m. dismissal because PCCC needed to use those rooms, officials said.

What's next: Officials on Monday afternoon had not yet determined whether P-Tech classes would return to the regular building on Memorial Drive on Tuesday or would continue at the college.

Fire investigation: The three-alarm fire on Saturday heavily damaged the Pickle King building on Ellison Street, next to the high school, authorities said. Officials have not yet made public the cause of the blaze.
