Patient marries 14-year sweetheart at Jacob’s Medical Center in La Jolla

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — UC San Diego Health staff organized an in-care wedding for a patient and his 14-year sweetheart last week at Jacob’s Medical Center in La Jolla.

With Ruben Torres spending time in care, he and his partner, Angela, had the notion that a personal wedding ceremony at the facility on Valentine’s Day would be “a special moment” to tie the knot.

Once that decision was made, the UC San Diego Health staff coordinated the event. A chaplain from the institute was even the officiant.

Ruben and Angela got married in front of a small group of family and staff. Angela walked down the “aisle” to the song “Satisfy my Soul” by Bob Marley, which Ruben tenderly selected.

“Medical staff decorated and provided refreshments for the event. This wedding shows how our staff go above and beyond for our patients every day, and for special life moments like this one,” a UC San Diego Health spokesperson told FOX 5.

The nature of Torres’ medical condition was not provided.
