Patient treated at Tidelands Health is Grand Strand’s fourth positive coronavirus case

A patient treated at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet tested positive for coronavirus, the hospital announced in a news release Monday night.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control notified Tidelands of the positive test Monday evening. The patient is in isolation at home while being treated.

“Our medical professionals are following evidence-based care protocols and continue to take appropriate steps to protect our patients, team members and community,” said Dr. Gerald Harmon, vice president of medical affairs at Tidelands Health, in a prepared statement.

As of Monday night, this was the fourth person on the Grand Strand to test positive.

SCDHEC announced three coronavirus cases in Horry County on Sunday afternoon.

Two tested positive in commercial labs.

“Two new cases are from Horry County. The cases are elderly individuals who had known exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19 from another state. The cases are currently isolated at home,” DHEC stated in a news release.

The third tested positive in a DHEC Public Health Laboratory.

“One new case is from Horry County and is an elderly individual. Investigation is underway and further details are not currently available,” the release states.
