Patisserie The Gilded Acorn coming soon to OKC's First National Center

Chef Andrew Black is having his moment. His Grey Sweater and Black Walnut restaurants helped draw an Outstanding Chef semifinal nomination, and now he's making room for more under his umbrella.

Black told me all about his next concept, The Gilded Acorn, 146 Park Ave., seated at a booth in the new dining room, because it was the only spot in the former downtown Cafe 7 space to sit.

"We're still waiting on chairs," he said. "Supply line issues."

Once stocked with seats, The Gilded Acorn will open inside the First National Center and offer downtown a patisserie with sweet treats, light snacks, high tea, and elegant Champagne service.

"People aren't going to believe it," Black said. "It's going to be unlike anything in town. We'll have a curated selection of Champagnes and coffee — only the best."

Black said the offerings will be premium and evocative of First National Center's classic elegance, including custom Champagne towers and chocolates in gold foil. The tiny kitchen will produce small plates for the small dining room, which will eventually extend onto the sidewalk.

The Gilded Acorn will be open for breakfast, lunch and early dinner.

Once it opens, The Gilded Acorn will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. After The Gilded Acorn is up and running, Black will turn his attention to another downtown dining concept called The Phantom Door.

"That place is going to blow people's minds," he said. "It'll be across from The Criterion, but first we're gonna get Gilded Acorn open and running on all cylinders."
