Patrick and Brittany Mahomes cool as ever on ‘toasty’ ESPYs red carpet in Los Angeles

The secret to Patrick Mahomes’ style profile on red carpets? Apparently it’s his wife and very personal stylist, Brittany Mahomes.

The couple made yet another strong style statement Wednesday night on the red carpet before the ESPY Awards Wednesday night outside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

In heat that approached 90 degrees and prompted ESPN interviewers to warn that faces would be shiny because “it’s a little toasty out here,” the Mahomeses brought the cool-couple vibes.

It probably helped that the Chiefs quarterback didn’t wear a shirt under a double-breasted, cream-colored suit by Hugo Boss.

Brittany wore black, a figure-hugging Versace gown with buckle detailing, cutouts around the waist and a side slit. The chunky gold chain around her neck encrusted with diamonds mirrored Patrick’s shiny jewelry and the gold Versace buttons on the gown’s deconstructed bodice. Her curled hair was stacked in a loose updo.

This has been a fashionable year for the duo. They scored widespread style points with their first high-profile red carpet at the Met Gala in May, the same week they later appeared on the red carpet at the Kentucky Derby.

Mahomes said he’s been “trying to step up my style a little bit,” with help from a lot of people. But “definitely Brittany is the one making the final decision,” he said.

Teammate Travis Kelce did not appear on ESPN’s red carpet broadcast before the ESPYs. But he and “Saturday Night Live” cast member Heidi Gardner appeared together on stage early in the show to present the Best Comeback Athlete Award.

Gardner, who hails from Kansas City, was instrumental earlier this year in getting Kelce a hosting gig on the show that earned him rave reviews and likely other Hollywood work.

At last year’s ESPYs, Kelce showed up in a powder-blue suit with white sneakers. This year he looked more like Humphrey Bogart in “Casablanca” in a white jacket and black pants. Gardner wore a slinky, satiny black gown.

Kelce, Gardner and the Mahomeses all teed up their looks the night before on the red carpet at the premiere of the Netflix docuseries “Quarterback.” The film follows Mahomes and fellow NFL quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota through the last season. It is streaming now on Netflix.

At the “Quarterback” premiere, Mahomes wore a mint-green, double-breasted suit with black velvet loafers.

Brittany literally shined in a ruched, silver metallic, off-the-shoulder dress by Alex Perry with coordinating sandals.
