Patrick Mahomes’ airborne touchdown gives Chiefs lead over Bengals (Video)

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes would not be denied on fourth down against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13.

With everything all tied up in the third quarter, the Chiefs were facing a fourth-and-goal at the three-yard line. The ball was snapped and Mahomes dropped back to survey the field, but he didn’t find any receivers open. He did see an opening right up the center of the field, scrambling up the middle. However, when he approached the goal line the Bengals defenders were closing in on him. His only option was to go airborne, and so he did.

The play was reminiscent of Bulls legend Michael Jordan going for a slam dunk, but Mahomes was instead reaching to cross the plane of the goal line.

The leap for a three-yard touchdown would give the Chiefs a 24-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter of the game. This was Mahomes’ second rushing touchdown this season, matching a single-season career-high (2020) for the former league MVP.
