As my colleague Vahe Gregorian noted, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has an incredible arm, but his greatest qualities might be his competitive fire and flair for brilliance.

That was on display in the Chiefs’ 26-7 win over Miami with Mahomes’ 13-yard run that ended with a first down and a cracked helmet. Mahomes ran just twice in the game, but the other dash was equally huge.

Mahomes picked up 28 yards on a fourth-and-5 play, and that run set a new Chiefs record. Mahomes passed former running back Marcus Allen for the most career rushing yards in franchise history.

1. 425, Patrick Mahomes (2017-23)

2. 386, Marcus Allen (1993-97)

3. 355, Damien Williams (2018-19)

4. 210, Jerick McKinnon (2021-22)

5. 208, Wendell Hayes (1968-71)

Here are five other stats of note from the Chiefs’ victory via the team or CBS Sports.

1. Tying Big Ben

Mahomes threw a touchdown pass to Rashee Rice in the first quarter. Mahomes is now tied for the seventh-most TD throws in NFL postseason history.

1. 88, Tom Brady (48 games) 2001-22

2t. 45, Joe Montana (23 games) 1981-94

2t. 45, Aaron Rodgers (22 games) 2005-23

4. 44, Brett Favre (24 games) 1993-09

5. 40, Peyton Manning (27 games) 1999-15

6. 37, Drew Brees (18 games) 2004-00

7t. 36, Ben Roethlisberger (23 games) 2004-21

7t. 36, Patrick Mahomes (15 games) 2018-23

2. Passing Aikman

Mahomes now has a 12-3 record in postseason games, and only seven quarterbacks in NFL history have won more postseason games. Saturday’s victory gave Mahomes more playoff wins that Troy Aikman, Aaron Rodgers and Roger Staubach.

3. Nice debut

Rashee Rice’s 130 receiving yards were the sixth most ever by a rookie in a postseason game.

1., 160 D.K. Metcalf (Jan. 5, 2020)

2., 146 Jeremy Maclin (Jan. 9, 2010)

3t., 142 Keith Jackson (Dec. 31, 1988)

3t., 142 Keenan Allen (Jan. 12, 2014)

5., 132 Reggie Bush (Jan. 21, 2007)

6., 130 Rashee Rice (Jan. 13, 2024)

4. Chasing a different Rice

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made four field goals and two extra points on Saturday. That gives him 131 career points in playoff games, one behind Hall of Famer receiver Jerry Rice. Here are the top seven.

1. 238, Adam Vinatieri (1996-19)

2. 212, Stephen Gostkowski (2006-20)

3. 175, David Akers (1998-13)

4. 163, Mason Crosby (2007-22)

5. 153, Gary Anderson (1982-04)

6. 132, Jerry Rice (1985-04)

7. 131, Harrison Butker (2017-23)

5. Butker sets a record

Butker’s four field goals were the most ever by a Chiefs kicker in a postseason game. Five players have kicked three field goals in a playoff contest, including Butker. He’s done it four times.

The others to do it once: Jan Stenerud vs. Minnesota (Jan. 11, 1970), Nick Lowery at Miami (Jan. 5, 1991), Ryan Succop at Indianapolis (Jan. 4, 2014) and Cairo Santos at Houston (Jan. 9, 2016).
