Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ primary job requires him to play a televised game once a week.

But he appears on television a lot more than that, thanks to his work in commercials. You don’t have to be watching a sporting event to see a spot featuring Mahomes, who endorses a number of products.

That includes State Farm, Head & Shoulders and Oakley.

When it came time to film those commercials, Mahomes apparently asked that they be shot in Kansas City.

That State Farm “nuggies” spot with Andy Reid? It was filmed at the Independence Hi-Boy Drive-In.

The latest Head & Shoulders commercial with Troy Polamalu? Two spots in downtown Bonner Springs were picked for the commercial.

That Oakley spot featuring high school kids? It was recorded at St. Pius X High School.

Mahomes’ insistence on having the commercials shot locally led to the Kansas City Film Office sharing a video of workers thanking the Chiefs quarterback for helping them.

Here is what they said, taking turns to talk in the video:

“Hey Patrick, the Kansas City Film community wants to say thank you. I’m Cory. I’m Garrett, Danny, DeVonte. I’m a local production assistant, a local caterer, a local gaffer, a local makeup, hair and wardrobe stylist, a local electrician.

“I’m a first AC (assistant camera) in the Kansas City area. I want to thank you, Patrick. Thank you, Patrick. Thank you. Thank you for all you’ve done for the Kansas City film community. Through filming your commercials here in Kansas City, you’ve helped build and foster a community of actors, creatives, technicians, filmmakers who get to do what we love every day.

“By staying local, you have helped put Kansas City on the map as a filming location with the people, resources and talent to match. By bringing in more opportunities to Kansas City, you have given me and my family stability. You’ve given me appreciation. You have given me exciting projects to look forward to every year. You’ve given me joy in coming to work. You have provided new opportunities for me to grow in my craft, work and purpose, new experiences.

“You have helped give me a newfound enjoyment of my job. I’ve grown in my craft and I’ve had the pleasure to witness other locals grow as well. We all really do appreciate all the extra work that comes through Kansas City because you insist on it.

“So thank you, Patrick. Thanks, Patrick. Gracias, Patrick. Thank you, Patrick. Thank you, Patrick. Thank you, Mr. Mahomes.

“Thank you, Patrick. And Brittany and Sterling and Bronze, and the dogs and the extended family and Jacqueline and Chris and Hugo, all of the people that you have are extended family and the Mahomies with the film community. Thank you all.”

This is cool.
