Patrick Mahomes’ latest Head & Shoulders spot was shot in downtown Bonner Springs

It’s football season, which means the Super Bowl champion Chiefs will be in action, and fans will be able to watch Patrick Mahomes play ... and act.

Mahomes and the Chiefs open the preseason Sunday with a game against the Saints in New Orleans. A new batch of commercials featuring Mahomes is likely to follow.

We know one spot will be for Head & Shoulders, the shampoo company that has featured Mahomes in ads for the last few years.

The new spot shows Mahomes washing a woman’s hair in a salon and extolling the virtues of Head & Shoulders. A “close up” of the woman’s head reveals a microscopic-sized Troy Polamalu on her scalp.

The City of Bonner Springs wrote in a Facebook post that the spot was shot in the town of roughly 8,000 residents.

“This is how we felt learning @patrickmahomes was filming a commercial in our downtown! So ecstatic the commercial is out now so we can share it,” the city wrote. “As a community, we love sharing our charming downtown with people and we are honored to have played a small part in the commercial location. Our @bonner_pd did a great job on logistics!”

Mahomes filmed the commercial at the Pretty Co. Salon, while the hair follicle set was built and filmed at a space used by the Allegro Choirs of Kansas City.

Both are in downtown Bonner Springs.

“So the secret is out,” Allegro Choirs wrote on Facebook. “This spring, the Allegro Choirs of KC Studio was one of the locations in Bonner Springs for the new Head and Shoulders commercials with Patrick Mahomes and Troy Polamalu — the giant hair follicles were built, staged, and filmed in our rehearsal ‘shop.’ It was cool having both NFL greats and the huge crew in our space!”

The Pretty Co. Salon shared a Facebook post with photos from the day of shooting.

“Pretty Co. Salon was chosen as the filming location for the new Head & Shoulders commercial featuring Patrick Mahomes,” it wrote. “This was such an honor and an amazing opportunity for our small business.

“Our salon was built by my husbands two hands with the help of his friends. We opened during the pandemic & survived. Now this experience feels like such an accomplishment. Having a production company love your space enough to put it on TV feels incredible. Thank you Patrick for choosing to film in Kansas City!”

The City of Bonner Springs shared more about being proud to be the location of the new Mahomes commercial.

“Remember when a certain MVP Quarterback came to Oak Street in Bonner Springs and filmed a commercial?” the city wrote. “The commercial is done now and we can share it! We absolutely loved being host to a national commercial with #patrickmahomes. Our Bonner Springs Police Department did a great job with security and we would love to host more film and television work in our charming downtown! Thank you to the scouts who found just what they needed in downtown Bonner Springs!
