Patrick Mahomes reiterates surgically-repaired toe is good to go as Chiefs camp opens

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes reported for training camp in St. Joseph on Friday and reiterated what’s been true for much of the offseason:

All ready for action.

Mahomes said he will have no limitations on his surgically-repaired toe as camp opens.

“I think there will be no restrictions,” he said. “I’ve been training, running, throwing — doing everything that I usually do.”

The rookies reported along with Mahomes on Friday, with the veterans scheduled for a Monday arrival. A handful of veteran players returning from injury also reported early.

That group includes Mahomes. He had surgery this offseason to repair a turf toe injury he endured throughout the playoffs, and he subsequently spent time in a walking boot this spring. He had previously said felt 100% during summer workouts, including organized team activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp last month.

Mahomes has been working out with his personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe, throughout the offseason and said he’s also recently spent time throwing passes to his receivers.

“That’s what was so good (about) going to OTAs and doing those things — I tested it there, realized I was good, and when I got back with Bobby and started training in the offseason with him, I was able to do what I would normally do,” Mahomes said.
