Patrick Peterson says Larry Fitzgerald ‘ain’t going to retire’ if he hasn’t said it yet
Arizona Cardinals fans continue to wait for the decision of legendary wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Will he return for another season or will he retire?
No one is saying. No one in the Cardinals organization is forcing the issue. They want to give him his time. He deserves it.
But former Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson, now a member of the Minnesota Vikings, has an interesting take.
“If he ain’t retired yet, he ain’t going to retire,” he said on the All Things Covered podcast.
Of course, considering the moves the Cardinals made in the offseason, signing A.J. Green and drafting Rondale Moore in the second round, one could ask if Arizona has room for him.
Peterson wasn’t concerned.
“I think they will find a way,” he said. “If Larry wanted to come back later in the year, whenever the time may permit itself, they will find a way.”
Peterson believes there are only two possibilities for his return, one being the most likely and the other only a slight possibility.
He will either return to the Cardinals or he will join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Peterson said Fitzgerald understands he would have to have limited role, believing he might be able to give a team “a good 20 (plays), at least.”
But it would be only two scenarios.
“Listen, at the end of the day, all Larry wants is a championship,” he said. “Why not it be with a system that you already know in Bruce Arians or come back to Arizona if they are able to make a run, help those guys make a push in the playoffs?”
Does he have more information than the rest of us? It doesn’t necessarily sound like it.
“We’re just all going to have to wait and see what happens in the next couple of months.”
