A little more than 45 games ago, an unique talent sprinted out on the Bruin Fieldhouse floor for the first time just prior to his Bartlesville High School varsity basketball debut.

Bruin hoops history was about to be forever altered with the arrival of D.C. Power Supply.

Within his first 40 games David Castillo surpassed 1,000 career points, including a 43-point explosion against Ponca City.

The Bruins improved from one win the year prior to his arrival to six wins his freshman season to 12 victories his sophomore campaign.

When not suiting up for the Blue & White, Castillo earned a spot on the USA Basketball U16 roster (2021) and the USA Basketball U17 roster (2022), Both those team won international tournaments and Castillo brought home a gold medal from each.

He also has has reeled in other recognition — ESPN has listed him as the top prep point guard in America in the class of 2024, q Who’s Who representatives of some of the nation’s elite and highly-respected Division I college basketball teams have either visited Castillo in Bartlesville or have been wooing him with all the amorous tenacity of a Cupid’s arrow-struck suitor.

Just two games into Castillo’s junior campaign, he’s added another golden line to his Bruin resume.

Last Friday he dumped in 42 points in the Bruins 85-65 home opening win against the Sapulpa Chieftains. Castillo nearly turned the charity stripe into an avenue of perfection, hitting 11-of-12, and also missed only one three-point attempt.

The loss evened Bartlesville’s record at 1-1.

In addition to his historic offensive output. Although no comprehensive record seems to exist, the number of former Bruins, College High Wildcats/Sooner High Spartans that have gone for 40-or-more twice has to be a narrow list, indeed.

Castillo also played a direct role in several other Bruin points with his playmaking passes.

The actual flow of the action was a bit more lopsided than the final 20-point margin suggested. Bartlesville had led by nearly 30, but the gritty Sapulpa crew scored more than 20 in the fourth quarter.

Casillo followed up four days later by flushing 36 points against the Bixby High Spartans. Bixby held on at the end to win, 87-79, after Bartlesville failed to record back-to-back 80-point outputs for the first time in at least two decades or more. Castillo helped trigger a 32-19 run in the fourth period.

The season journey has just begun but there appears to be much promise in the horizon that looms ahead.
