Sunday, a Patriotic Community Concert is being held at Hillsdale Nazarene Church.
At 10:30 a.m., the popular gospel music group The Craguns will perform a patriotic-filled concert.
The concert is free and open to the public, with a BBQ lunch following the performance. According to a statement from the church, a love offering will be taken at the event.
Mike Prince, pastor at Hillsdale Nazarene, said this will be the second year the church is hosting The Craguns.
“This will be our second annual event with The Craguns and more than likely they will keep coming out every year,” Prince said.
Prince said the idea for the event sprang from the need to rebuild the Hillsdale community after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As COVID-19 began to wind-down last year, I started to think of ways to get people together again,” he said, “To really give people hope.”
Prince said Independence Day offered the perfect opportunity to not only bring the community together, but also to salute the servicemen and women of the nation.
“We wanted to celebrate the community and have everyone come together for a time of saluting our nation and our community, while letting all those who have served and serve in the military know how much we appreciate them,” he said.
The Craguns are a family band who have members who have served in the military and Prince said his favorite part of the event are the testimonies The Craguns give before each song they perform at the concert.
“It’s one thing to just hear the music,” Price said, “It’s another to hear the testimonies and encouragement to keep moving forward.”
Prince said the church is excited to bring the community together in this concert and honor all those who have served.
“It’s a salute. I just don’t think we can ever do enough for our military folks that have given their lives, or those who are still fighting for our freedoms today,” Prince said, “But I can’t think of a better way to honor them.”
