Paul Simon Lists Connecticut Estate for $13.9 Million

The 32-acre property has a private recording studio

Even famous musicians want to downsize when their kids move out. That’s why Paul Simon is selling his countryside estate in New Canaan, Connecticut. The 8,500-square-foot home is listed for $13.9 million—or 16 percent less than the “Bridge Over Troubled Water” singer paid when he bought the place in 2002.

Although Simon is taking a loss, the property is certainly no less impressive than it was when he moved in. Dating back to the 1930s, the whitewashed brick Colonial-style home has six bedrooms, large dining and living areas, multiple libraries, and a three-car garage. The light-wood and marble kitchen has a large breakfast bar, colorful light fixtures, and large bay windows that give the space a homey feel. There is also a separate cottage onsite that has two bedrooms and a recording studio Simon calls "a peaceful space." The Grammy winner (and former half of Simon and Garfunkel) recorded his last four albums there.

One of the most stunning aspects of the property is its large grounds. The main home and cottage sit on over 30 acres that feature a great lawn, meadows, woods, a brook, a pond, waterfalls, a courtyard, and formal walled gardens.

"The first thing we thought when we moved from Manhattan was ‘Wow! We have our own park’," Paul Simon told Mansion Global in a statement. "It took half an hour to walk a loop of the property with the dogs." The singer added that he would miss playing baseball in the yard of the home where he and his wife, Edie Brickell, raised their three children (Simon also has another son from a previous marriage).

The "Sound of Silence" singer also owns a home in Montauk, New York. The cottage sits on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and reportedly had to be picked up and moved back about 80 feet in 2017 because erosion threatened to destroy the structure.
