  • Paulina Porizkova, 56, shared an un-retouched selfie to Instagram to talk about Botox and fillers.

  • She said she doesn't judge people who try cosmetic procedures and the like, but feels conflicted about using them herself.

  • “I, personally, want to see other women who haven’t tweaked, so I have a sense of what being my age looks like.”

Fifty-six-year-old former supermodel Paulina Porizkova has become known for using her platform to celebrate aging and discuss today’s beauty standards. But as the demand for cosmetic procedures like Botox continues to rise, she admits that she’s not immune to pressures to conform. After all, in a world of smooth foreheads and dissolved crow’s feet, it’s hard to show up as her authentic self—but that’s why she does it.

On January 6, she shared her latest insightful chat below a black-and-white selfie that split her face in half. On one side, red lines circled her “signs of aging.” The other side was retouched and smooth.

“Ok, let’s talk tweaking for a moment,” she began. “When I post no Botox no fillers hashtags, I get a fair amount of criticism from women assuming I’m somehow being superior.” But those aren’t her intentions, she added, explaining that she merely wants to provide representation for aging women—something that is often hard to find in the mainstream.

“This is what it looks like to be an un-tweaked woman of 56, (ok, so on a good day and in great light),” she wrote. “I, personally, want to see other women who haven’t tweaked, so I have a sense of what being my age looks like.”

She continued: “In our new world of artificial perfection, sometimes it’s impossible to tell what is what, and I’m trying to clarify it for you the way I’d like it clarified for myself.”

The star went on to say she in no way judges people who do undergo aesthetic treatments. In her words, they’re “simply seizing their power in any way they see fit.”

However, she has conflicted feelings about getting Botox or fillers herself because she fears it would taint her journey to self-acceptance. “Remaining tweak-free is acceptance. Can you do both?” she asked. “I have no idea. I’m trying, but so far, I keep falling into the muddy middle.”

In full transparency, Porizkova said she does “non-invasive laser stuff with @laserrae and @skinlikeb to boost collagen” along with her skincare regimen. “[I] hope one day I’ll wake up not caring so much,” she wrote. “Or perhaps, accepting that I cannot change societal norms by myself and go and seize my power.”

Her message resonated with many, and she was flooded with comments thanking her for sharing so vulnerably. “You, P are a rare gem that has opened the door to aging 100% naturally and being comfortable in your skin. The older I get the sexier I feel… no facelifts, no implants, just self-care that makes me feel good,” one person wrote.

“People do not allow us to age at all and I think showing what a naturally beautiful woman looks like at 56 is great for the world - thank you!” another added.

Even for someone as confident and strong as Porizkova, the pressures of anti-aging culture can sometimes feel stronger. That’s why she has to take this aging thing one day at a time—just like the rest of us.
