Pavo Civic Club Car & Truck Show brings the competition

Sep. 4—PAVO- The Pavo Civic Club hosted the Peacock Center Car and Truck Show on Saturday, where the organization raised money to benefit the Pavo Library and K9 Unit in Boston, Ga. The show also served as an outlet for individuals who have been holed up in their homes post Hurricane Idalia.

A Premium Productions Automotive Event, the cars in the show were judged against perfection.

"When you approach a car, you expect it to be perfect," explained Premium Productions judge Nate Fricks. "Anything you see that is not perfect, is a potential deduction. A car starts with a perfect score and you eventually work it down to what its real score is."

The cars were divided into 24 categories, including Car Stock (1900-1950), Car Stock (1951-1970), Car Stock (1971-1985), Car stock (1986-1995), Car Stock (1996-2005), Car Stock (2006-2012), Car Stock (2013-2020), Car Stock (2021-Present), Car Modified (1949-1960), Car Modified (1961-1970), Car Modified (1971-1980), Car Modified (1981-1990), Car Modified (1991-2000), Car Modified (2001-2009), Car Modified (2010-2019), Car Modified (2020-Present), Truck Stock, Truck Modified, Street Rod (1900-1948), Foreign (1900-1970), Foreign (1971-1990), Foreign (1991-2000), Foreign (2001- Present) and Rat Rods.

Most car entrants were looking to take home the Overall Best in Show winner, which combines two of the categories.

In addition to overall best in show, entrants had the opportunity to win Mayor's Choice and People's Choice. Individuals in attendance were given tickets to place in the cup of the car they most liked throughout the show.

While the competition was tough, Fricks said some of the regulars he had seen in the past at the show didn't attend this year due to the storm. However, that didn't stop other entrants from taking every step to make sure their car was in pristine condition for judging, and visitors took note.

The people chose Mr. Clark's Dodge Tombstone Undertaker as their favorite of the day, while the Mayor's Choice Award went to Mr. Walden for his '64 Yellow Falcon Sprint.

It all came down to the Overall Best in Show winners.

For categories 1 and 2, Mike Wiggins was the Division winner with his 1966 Ford Fairlane.

Mickey Parker took the Division win for categories 3 and 4 with his 1973 AMC Javalin.

Lynn Horne was the lone female Division winner for the day, claiming the category five and six win with her 2001 Corvette.

Guy Gordon's 2023 Challenger was the Division winner in categories 7 and 8, while Gary Grimes' 1945 Bel Air was the Division winner in categories 9 and 10.

In categories 11 and 12, the Division winner was Danny Seth with his 1980 Camaro Z28. Eric Creely's 2007 Mustang GT 500 was the Division winner in categories 13 and 14.

With no entries for categories 15 and 16, the competition picked back up in the truck stock division with Tim Paramoore winning on his birthday with his 1966 Ford F100. Eddy Henderson won category 18 in his modified 1969 Chevy C-10.

The Edwards brothers paired together to bring home a win for Street Rods with their 1931 Ford Model A.

With no entrants for categories 20-23, Richard Rhoads took home the overall Best in Show in the foreign category with his 2016 Hyundai Velositer.

Finally, Premium Productions Automotive created a Rat Rods category after seeing Clark's Dodge Tombstone Undertaker and one other vehicle. Keith Kendrick ended up taking the overall Best in Show in Rat Rods with his 1932 Chevy.

Fricks said he loved helping produce the Georgia car shows, because they always bring out a lot of older cars, such as the Rat Rods.

"Georgia has two classics," he said. "They have a lot of great '57 Chevys and Model As and Model Ts, but by far they always have the best trucks."

Pavo Civic Club President Jimmy Brock was thankful to Fricks for his expertise and help with the show, expressing the event is always a success for the community.

"We always do a 50/50 raffle that benefits the Pavo Library and the K9 unit out of Boston," Brock said. "Everything we do, we try to give back to the community. We are a small group, but we make big things happen."

Brock concluded by thanking everyone for turning out and encouraged them to look out for the upcoming Christmas activities.
