PAWS Atlanta says a second dog has been found after 3 puppies were stolen on Friday

PAWS Atlanta announced on its website that a second dog stolen from the rescue, Violet, has been found an returned.

Violet is one of the three puppies stolen on Friday from the establishment.

Officials with the rescue said that Violet was spotted by a man who was walking his dog in a nearby neighborhood. She was tied to a light post wearing a leash and harness.

The man brought her to PAWS and she is now safe at the shelter and unharmed.

“We have no reason to believe that the person who found and returned her is related to the break-in, and we’re grateful for his care and assistance,” said PAWS in an online statement.

The leash and harness she was wearing did not belong to PAWS Atlanta.

PAWS said Violet was found in the same area that another puppy that has since been found was located.

Emilia, a pit bull mix, was found safe with “a few scratches and a hungry belly” on Friday night, the shelter said.

“Last night, September 16, around 8 p.m., a PAWS Atlanta volunteer spotted a photo of a puppy on the Nextdoor app that strongly resembled one of our missing pups.” the department said. “The dog had been wandering, scared, in someone’s yard for a few hours. The volunteer contacted PAWS Atlanta staff, who immediately drove to the location and determined that it was, indeed, Emilia!”

DeKalb police responded to the PAWS Atlanta shelter on a suspicious person call around 2:30 a.m. Friday When officers showed up, they found the front entrance of the shelter broken into.

Shelter manager Laura McKelvey says the thief used a huge piece of concrete to smash a window in a door and get inside early Friday morning.

PAWS believes it is possible that the suspect lives in the area.

“So we encourage people who live nearby to be especially vigilant. The best way to assist us currently is to print flyers and post them in the area,” said PAWS.

A third puppy, Princeton, remains missing.

PAWS asked that everyone continue to look for Princeton on Nextdoor, Craigslist, Facebook, and in your community.
