Pawtucket couple, both 70 years old, fatally injured in Seekonk crash

A 70-year-old man and his 70-year-old wife, both from Pawtucket, were fatally injured Monday evening in a crash in Massachusetts, according to a spokesman for Bristol County's district attorney.

Robert Langevin was trying to cross Route 44, at an intersection in Seekonk, when he pulled the Corvette into the path of an eastbound Jeep Wrangler, said the spokesman, Gregg Miliote.

The Corvette was on Lincoln Street, and Winifred Langevin was riding in the passenger seat, when Langevin tried to cross Route 44, cutting into the path of the Jeep as it approached the intersection, said MIliote.

Witnesses told police that the Jeep's 25-year-old driver braked and tried to swerve out of the way but she "had no opportunity to do so" because the Corvette had cut in front of her, Miliote said.

Winifred Langevin was pronounced dead at the scene, and Robert Langevin was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Jeep driver, whose injuries were minor, also was taken to the hospital for treatment.

An investigation of the crash, which took place at 6:04 p.m. continues, Miliote said.
