Pay It Forward: Road trip to New Iberia to help a close friend

NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) – KLFY News 10 partnered with Bob Giles and Giles Automotive this month to spotlight a local woman who pays it forward to a deserving friend and mother of four.

Nicole Guidry had heard of Pay It Forward before and wanted to help her dear friend, Rebecca Melancon.

“I have someone in mind, but they work in New Iberia. Rebecca Melancon and she works for the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Department. She’s a single mom of four kids. She’s a wonderful person,” says Guidry. Pay It Forward became a road trip.

“Hi, good morning, Rebecca. We have a surprise for you. I’m Sylvia Masters with KLFY TV and this is Bob Giles with Giles Automotive and we met Nicole. We have a program called Pay It Forward and we do this every month and we went up to Nicole randomly and we told her what we were doing and she immediately thought of you for this program. Basically, we go up to somebody at random and we ask them if they can think of somebody to help pay it forward to help financially. Bob will explain what he has.”

“There’s some money in this envelope which I’m going to pay it forward to Nicole so you can pay it forward to you,” says Giles. Guidry apologizes to her friend for springing it on her suddenly. Melancon opens the gift to find $1,000.

“Nicole immediately thought of you and was so complimentary of you and said so many wonderful things about you and being the mother of four kids and working for the local sheriff’s office that you’ve done so much and that you would really deserve this.”

She was so overwhelmed, all she could manage to say was “thank you.”
