Pay tribute to heroes at Veterans Day ceremonies in the Poconos

Salute heroes and service members at these Veterans Day ceremonies happening in our area.

Patriots Ball

Get dressed up for a good cause. The Patriot’s Ball raises awareness and funds for Veteran-related issues.

The benefit — for the Valor Clinic Foundation — includes a dinner, live entertainment (with plenty of time for dancing) and guest speakers.

Formal and evening wear required.

Cost: $100 per person

Barrett Township Veterans Day Ceremony

The township will host its ceremony near the flagpole starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Tribute in Pocono Lake

The Pocono Lions Club will sponsor its eighth annual Wreaths for Veterans ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 12 at the Pocono Lake Cemetery in Pocono Pines.

The club created the event as a way means of remembrance and respect, the ceremony brings together the greater Pocono Plateau community to honor service members who sacrificed their lives to preserve the freedoms we as a nation continue to experience.

Wreaths will be laid by volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 94, Girl Scout Troop 512, BSA Troop 97, Cub Pack 90, and Knights of Columbus Council 11355, the Monroe County Joint Veterans Honor Guard, along with members of the Pocono Lions Club.

Families of veterans are invited to place a wreath on their family member’s grave.

Immediately following the ceremony, attendees are invited to enjoy refreshments including hot chocolate and cookies donated by local businesses at Lake Naomi Clubhouse.

Donations to defray ceremony expenses are being accepted.

Veterans enjoy a free meal before the flag raising ceremony.

Ceremony in Bushkill

The event starts with a flag raising at 11 a.m. followed by a speech by service members and a moment of silence on Friday, Nov. 11.

Veterans will receive a free light lunch inside the Creek Room at 1 p.m.

Wayne County-area Veterans Day observances and events

Hawley: American Legion Wilson-Kelch Post 311 is hosting their annual Veterans Day ceremony on November 11th at 11:11 a.m. in the park in Hawley on Park Place, at the veteran's monument. This will be rain or shine. There will also be free hot dogs and hamburgers provided at the Legion Post building at 521 Church Street and is open to the public.

Honesdale: Honesdale American Legion Post 254 and VFW Post 531 will be holding a Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Park, Fair Avenue (Route 191) on November 11th at 11:11 a.m.

Wallenpaupack: The fourth-grade students of the Wallenpaupack North Intermediate School will be participating in a Veterans Day Program on Friday, November 11 at 6 p.m. at the Wallenpaupack Area High School Gym. Sgt. Randall Williams, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a Hawley resident, is the guest speaker. Sgt. Williams was deployed to Iraq for two terms and also to Afghanistan, as well as serving at Okinawa Japan, and Camp Mujuk, South Korea. The public is welcome.
