Paying attention to polio circulation; good news for turtles: Rockland Angle

We're still keeping watch on polio circulation in Rockland and beyond - on Friday, the New York City Department of Health reported polio had also been detected in wastewater samples there. And if you are wondering how those tests are done, by my colleague, Chris McKenna, has a story coming this week that explains the process. Look for it soon on lohud!

Meanwhile, a nice bit of environmental news from the Turtles of Western Highway. The nonprofit reports zero fatalities this season among turtles that would migrate across the road during hatching season, which starts around June. Plus, the organization has expanded to help preserve the reptiles beyond the stretch of roadway along Clarkstown-Orangetown near the Hackensack River. The group's put up signs near Sickletown Road and Rockland Lake, too.
