You are paying more at the pump: Palm Beach County gas prices rise 15 cents in past week

WEST PALM BEACH — Gasoline prices in Palm Beach County were higher Monday than last week by 15 cents or more after a spike last week boosted prices statewide.

Two Palm Beach County stations, one in Palm Beach Gardens and the other in West Palm Beach, showed prices at $2.75 per gallon Monday, up from last week's low of $2.59.

Statewide, the average cost of gas Monday decreased to $3.14 after rising to as high as $3.17 last Thursday, according to the American Automobile Association. Last Monday, the state's per-gallon average was $3.01, the lowest of the year, according to AAA reports.

"Florida gas prices seem to be moving down again almost as quickly as they shot up," said Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group. "There isn't any clear explanation for last week's sudden increase, as oil and gasoline futures logged their sixth consecutive weekly loss. Regardless, drivers in many cities are beginning to find gas prices close to the same levels where they were last week."

The West Palm Beach-to-Boca Raton metro market has the most expensive gas, averaging $3.32 per gallon, in part because of a Palm Beach County tax on gasoline sales. Naples and Homosassa Springs were next at $3.20 per gallon.

The state's cheapest gas can be found in Panama City ($2.93), Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($2.94) and Pensacola ($2.98) in the Florida Panhandle.

The following per-gallon prices were posted Monday morning on the website www.GasBuddy.com and represent the lowest for these parts of Palm Beach County.
