PB Catch has been approved for permanent outdoor seating as part of the town’s Outdoor Café Program.

On Wednesday, the Town Council voted 4-1 to grant 40 permanent outdoor seats for the seafood restaurant and raw bar, 251 Sunrise Ave.

With some of the seating pertaining to sidewalk flanking PB Catch, council member Julie Araskog voted no, citing concerns the variance only accounts for 4 feet of unobstructed sidewalk rather than the 5 feet specified in Outdoor Café Program regulations.

The outdoor seats won’t increase total capacity. They will be drawn from PB Catch’s existing seats (150), per program regulations.

The Outdoor Café Program was enacted last fall to replace a temporary outdoor-seating program the town put in place in May 2020 to help eateries stay afloat in the COVID-19 pandemic’s early days.

PB Catch was granted temporary outdoor seating in December 2020; the temporary program expires on Labor Day.

“Moving forward, outdoor seating will play an important role because people who’ve gotten used to dining outside (during the pandemic) can continue to do so,” PB Catch general manager/partner Daniel Smith told the Daily News on Friday.

In July, Café L’Europe and Club Colette — which both also had temporary outdoor seating — were the first two restaurants in town to be approved for permanent outdoor dining.
