Peabody Energy: 4Q Earnings Snapshot

ST LOUIS (AP) _ Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) on Wednesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $289.8 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the St. Louis-based company said it had a loss of $2.98. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 55 cents per share.

The coal mining company posted revenue of $1.12 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported a loss of $211.3 million, or $2.04 per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $4.62 billion.

Peabody Energy shares have decreased 19% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 2%. The stock has fallen 79% in the last 12 months.
