It's officially been confirmed at last: season five of Peaky Blinders is coming to BBC One on 25th August, at 9pm on BBC One.

You've not got much time to get your head around the fact that it's returning, but then again life on the underside of interwar Birmingham society never really had much time for niceties.

Given that we've got a matter of weeks before the season starts now, you can get yourself up to speed with what was going on in Britain in 1929 with our primer on Oswald Mosley, the communist party, the Wall Street Crash and more here. Need another look over the trailer and a frame-by-frame breakdown? Go here. Want a fan theory to wet your whistle? Try this one.

In broad strokes, we know where we're at as the fifth season opens. Tommy Shelby is now the Right Honourable Thomas Shelby, Member of Parliament for Birmingham South, and he's set to face off against Mosley, who would go on to become the leader of the British Union of Fascists - we heard Mosley tell Tommy in the trailer that he has "come to my attention".

But what will happen to the family business? Whose is the suspiciously dead body Tommy's cradling by the wreckage of a burning car in the trailer? Will Polly chill out a bit? We'll find out very shortly.
