Pearl Jam has Oklahoma City stop in rescheduled 2020 North American tour

Two years after Pearl Jam became one of the first major acts to postpone tour plans over COVID-19 concerns, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have finally announced the rescheduled dates for their long-awaited tour in support of their "Gigaton" album.

Originally slated for 2020, the iconic band has officially rescheduled its North American tour dates for May and September 2022.

The legendary Seattle hitmakers now will play Oklahoma City Sept. 20 at Paycom Center, which was known as Chesapeake Energy Arena back when the tour was initially announced.

Pearl Jam was originally slated to perform in OKC on April 6, 2020. The band announced it was postponing the tour on March 9, two days before a confirmed case of COVID-19 at the OKC Thunder vs. Utah Jazz game at the downtown Oklahoma City arena led to widespread event delays, cancellations and shutdowns across the country.

Newly rescheduled tour supporting latest album, 'Gigaton'

As part their ongoing commitment to address the band’s carbon footprint, Pearl Jam — founding members Eddie Vedder (lead vocals and guitar), Jeff Ament (bass guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar) and Mike McCready (lead guitar), along with Matt Cameron (drums), who joined in 1998 — will be paying $200 per ton for carbon dioxide mitigation from the "Gigaton" tour, a 10-fold increase from prior years.

According to the Paycom Center website, $5 of each ticket price is a charitable contribution to the Vitalogy Foundation.

“We are proud of our prior efforts to mitigate our inevitable carbon footprint from touring over the past 20 years but the time to multiply that effort is clearly right now," Gossard said in a statement. "By committing to this aggressive pricing, we hope to equally amplify our efforts and gather partners who share our urgency to make the investments and innovations required to move our world to a more conscious, carbon balanced economy.”

Although the tour plans were put on hold, Pearl Jam’s latest album, "Gigaton," was released in March 2020. Featuring fan favorites “Dance of the Clairvoyants,” “Superblood Wolfmoon,” and “Quick Escape,” it debuted atop Billboard’s Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums and Vinyl Albums charts. It also made the Top 5 on Billboard 200 Album Chart, reached No. 2 Billboard Top Album Sales Chart and to date has achieve more than 200 million global streams.
