Pearl River Central High School announces it has hired a new head football coach

Pearl River Central announced Wednesday in a Facebook post it is hiring Jacob Webb Sr. as its next head football coach.

Webb Sr. will be the Blue Devils’ seventh head coach since 2000, and is replacing Jacob Owen, who stepped down after five seasons.

“(Webb Sr.) believes that you create a culture of success by instilling confidence, sound moral values and attainable expectations that will turn boys into men,” PRC’s release on the social media site said. “This culture includes being champions in the classroom, on the field and in the community.”

Webb Sr. arrives from Jackson Academy, an independent school in Alabama where he also served as athletic director and baseball coach.

In his seven seasons leading the Eagles, Webb Sr. compiled a 56-25 record, including a 33-4 stretch over the past three seasons with a perfect 14-0 record in region play during that time.

Jackson Academy played for an AISA title in each of the past two seasons.

Pearl River Central is coming off a 1-9 season and has not had a winning campaign since 2015 under Eric Collins. The Blue Devils were 13-38 during Owen’s tenure.

The school will be starting its first academic year at the 6A level in July.
