Peasley named to Manning Award stars of the week

Nov. 21—University of Wyoming quarterback Andrew Peasley was named to the Manning Award stars of the week list Monday after having a career-day in the Cowboys' 42-9 win over Hawaii on Saturday.

It was the second time Peasley was named to the list this season, and the third time since he transferred to UW last season. Peasley had a gutsy performance against the Rainbow Warriors, throwing for a career-high 319 yards and tying a career-high with three touchdowns.

He threw an 89-yard touchdown pass to tight end John Michael Gyllenborg in the first quarter, which was the longest pass of his six-year career. The 89-yard touchdown was the longest touchdown pass for UW since a 92-yard pass from Cam Coffman to Tanner Gentry against North Dakota on Sept. 5, 2015.

Peasley finished the game 14-of-17 passing (82%), which was also a career-high.

The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, has named eight quarterbacks as its stars of the week. The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.

Since the Manning Award started recognizing stars of the week in 2011, 521 different quarterbacks from 133 schools have been recognized. Sixty players were honored during the 2022 season, while 60 quarterbacks have been recognized so far this year.
