Pebble Hill Plantation offering free grounds and outbuildings admission for "Super Museum Sunday"

Feb. 5—THOMASVILLE- Pebble Hill Plantation recently announced that it will participate in the Georgia History Festival's Super Museum Sunday on February 11, 2024. Super Museum Sunday is part of the annual Georgia History Festival, the signature K-12 educational program of the Georgia Historical Society, reaching hundreds of thousands of students statewide.

Pebble Hill Plantation will join over 100 historic sites, house museums, art museums, and other points of interest throughout Georgia that will open their doors to the public, free of charge. Pebble Hill will open its gates at noon and everyone will receive free admission to tour the historic Grounds and Outbuildings.

Pebble Hill Plantation opened to the public as a museum in 1983 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 3,000-acre property is representative of a 20th century sporting estate harkening back to the glory days of Thomasville as a playground for the rich and famous.

The historic outbuildings, that are open to the public for self-guided tours include the elaborate Stable/Dairy Complex, which houses the Visitors Center, audio-visual room, historical exhibits, and an impressive collection of carriages, carts, and hunt wagons that were used at Pebble Hill from 1896-1978. Do not miss seeing the Eisenhower wagon, which President Dwight D. Eisenhower traveled in on his frequent quail hunts at Pebble Hill.

Visitors may also tour the Kennel Cottage, which opened to the public in 2023. This structure was the home of longtime Kennel Manager and Dog Handler, Mr. Mack McQueen. The cottage gives the public a look into the lives of employees of Pebble Hill Plantation, from 1896 to 1978 with photo exhibits and furnishings.

The Pump House, Dog Hospital, Noah's Ark, and "The Waldorf" are other buildings open for self-guided tours on the property. There are 70 acres for visitors to explore. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy anywhere on the Grounds. There is a viewing platform for nature observation at the pond with swings. There is are picnic tables and a grill located there, as well.

Pebble Hill Plantation is home to the "Baby Big Oak", located across the pond from the picnic area. The oak was the only surviving seedling from the last acorn crop of Thomasville's beloved "Big Oak" and was donated to Pebble Hill Plantation by Mrs. Carol Singletary.
