According to the newspaper, the washing machine is a reference to numerous cases of looting by the Russian invaders in Ukraine.

The monument itself was doused with red paint.

The mayor of Litoměřice, Radek Löwy, said the local municipal services would remove the paint from the monument.

“The city’s technical services will find out how the monument was painted,” he said.
