Pedestrian, 55, struck and killed trying to cross Route 17 in Ramsey

A 55-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a motor vehicle early Friday morning around 6:40 a.m. on Route 17 south near Ramsey Outdoor, according to the Ramsey Police Department.

Following an investigation, it was determined that the unidentified victim was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Route 17 when he was struck by a Honda CRV traveling in the left lane, police said.

No additional injuries were reported.

The crash affected both the north and southbound lanes of Route 17 but both sides were reopened at around 9:30 a.m.

This was only one of a string of events that occurred this morning on Route 17, causing closures in various spots.

The other incidents included a car crash that downed a pole on Route 17 near Saddle River, closing the road in both directions, and a watermain break on Route 17 South in Carlstadt that closed the shoulder and right lane.
