Pedestrian and bicyclist among four men to die in separate South Jersey accidents

BERLIN BOROUGH - A bicyclist was among four men to die in South Jersey traffic accidents in recent days, police say.

Nicholas Krier, 27, of Pine Hill was struck by a car as he tried to ride his bike across the White Horse Pike shortly before 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, according to Berlin Borough police.

Krier was northbound on South Franklin Avenue when he entered the intersection, according to a police account.

He was struck by a car traveling east on the pike. The vehicle's driver, a 47-year-old woman, remained at the scene.

"A witness who observed the crash reported to police that the motor vehicle had a green signal when it crossed the intersection," the account said.

In other fatal accidents:

● In Deptford, a 28-year-old pedestrian was struck on Saturday, Nov. 12, as he tried to cross Delsea Drive near Central Avenue, police said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 5:30 a.m. accident.

The driver remained at the scene.

● A Blackwood motorcyclist was killed when he hit a guardrail on County Road 532 in Woodland on Nov. 9, according to New Jersey State Police.

Barry Schwartz, 65, was thrown from his Harley Davidson during the 11:50 a.m. accident near milepost 14.5 in the Pinelands community, police said.

● A Mercer County man died in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 295 in Mount Laurel, also on Nov. 9.

The victim, 62-year-old Dennis Cox of Hamilton Square, was driving in the right lane of the northbound highway, when his van struck the side of a pickup truck in the center lane around 8:10 a.m., said a police account.

The van ran off the road to the left, overturned and was struck by an oncoming tractor trailer in a southbound lane, the account said.

Cox was thrown from his vehicle during the accident near milepost 42.6.
