Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Fishkill

FISHKILL - A woman died after she was hit by a car on Merritt Boulevard in the town of Fishkill on Saturday morning.

State police charged the driver with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, a felony.

According to state police, Aida Y. Miranda, 62, of Fishkill, was driving a 2019 Kia Sorrento on Merritt Boulevard near the Vanderbilt Way intersection in the town of Fishkill when she struck Balvinder Parihar, 72, also of Fishkill, and did not report the incident.

State police said it happened around 10 a.m. Saturday.

A responding state trooper and an off-duty emergency medical technician performed life-saving techniques at the scene. Parihar was then taken by Empress EMS to Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, where she was pronounced dead.

Miranda was arrested on Sunday. She was arraigned before Fishkill Town Justice Ray Raiche and sent to the Dutchess County jail pending a Nov. 4 court appearance. Information on her bail and the name of her attorney were not immediately available.
