Pedestrian dies after being hit in Zionsville

Apr. 24—A pedestrian died as the result of a vehicle accident Saturday morning in Zionsville, police said.

But few details beyond that were available Monday morning as the Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, FACT, investigates.

A motorist called 911 after 6 a.m. to say that someone "walked out in front of him," and acted like they wanted to be hit, according to Boone County Communications Center records. The driver swerved and missed the pedestrian, but the pedestrian stayed in the roadway at U.S. 421 and 116th Street, the report said.

A dispatcher sent police to the area, where they found another vehicle that had hit a pedestrian, Zionsville Police Cpt. Drake Sterling confirmed. They also found an Indianapolis woman lying unresponsive just off U.S. 421 near Willow Road, police reported.

Dionna Scott, 42, was semiconscious when the Zionsville Fire Department rushed her to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, where she later died, according to a ZPD news statement.

Sterling declined to release information regarding the driver pending the outcome of the investigation, although the driver was tested for the use of alcohol or illegal drugs, as is standard in fatal crashes in Indiana.

Police did not immediately know why Scott was in the area and on foot. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
