Pedestrian dies after being struck by suspected DUI driver in Chinatown

A pedestrian was pronounced dead after being struck by a suspected DUI driver and possibly a second vehicle in Los Angeles’ Chinatown neighborhood Wednesday morning.

The incident was reported around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of North Broadway and Ord Street, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to KTLA.

The first vehicle involved in the crash was traveling northbound on Broadway when the driver struck the pedestrian.

The spokesperson said the driver circled the block and came back to the scene after the crash.

The driver told investigators that a second vehicle also hit the pedestrian but the driver fled the area.

The victim, identified only as a man between 50 and 60 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the first vehicle, a 40-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, the spokesperson said.

No description of the possible second vehicle, or the driver, was immediately available.
