ABERDEEN - A pedestrian was stuck and killed by a train Friday morning, and rail service was temporarily suspended as authorities investigate, according to NJ Transit Police.

About 8 a.m., a North Jersey Coast Line train - which departed Bay Head at 6:53 a.m. and was scheduled to reach New York Penn Station at 9:03 a.m. - struck and fatally injured a pedestrian near Cliffwood Avenue, police said, just past the Aberdeen-Matawan station.

The identity of the victim was not released.

North Jersey Coast Line rail service was suspended in both directions between South Amboy and Long Branch, NJ Transit Police said, but is now operating on or close to schedule with residual delays.
