Pedestrian hit and killed by a Brightline train in Delray Beach, police say

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Brightline train in Delray Beach Friday morning, according to police.

The department issued a statement shortly after 7 a.m. about the incident at Southeast Second Avenue and Fourth Street.

Delray Beach police spokesman Ted White said the death appears to be a suicide. Police closed traffic in the area of Southeast Second Avenue and Fourth Street while investigating the incident, which happened around 6:17 a.m., White said.

Officers reopened the road shortly after 9 a.m., he said.

The incident did not significantly delay a separate Brightline train making its inaugural trip on Friday morning from Miami to Orlando, a company spokesperson said. That train pulled out of the Miami station sometime before 7:30 a.m.

If you or someone you know is thinking about self harm, call the toll-free National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255). It’s available 24/7.
