A pedestrian who was struck by a compact car while in a Miami Beach crosswalk received a $1 million settlement without filing a lawsuit.

Anibal Ribba, who was hit by Uber driver Juan Espinosa Pulido, was diagnosed with numerous injuries to his right leg, and a CT scan suggested possible hemorrhaging in his brain. He underwent reduction surgery on his leg, but he remained in a wheelchair, was unable to walk and was fired from his job as a result of his physical limitations. Ribba said he was in the process of scheduling a second surgery when the case settled, and he would need physical therapy and rehabilitation afterward.

The defendants' insurance provider tendered its $1 million policy limit.
