Pedestrian identified in fatal hit-and-run in Aiken County

Aug. 25—The victim from Monday night's fatal hit-and-run in Aiken County has been identified.

Pervis P. Stalnaker, 64, of Jackson, was killed in a hit-and-run late Monday night on Highway 28 near Swamp Road in Beech Island, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.

He was walking along S.C. Highway 28 around 11 p.m. when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle.

"Autopsy showed Mr. Stalnaker died from injuries sustained in the incident," Ables said.

Toxicology analysis are pending.

As of Wednesday afternoon, police have not identified the suspect.

"The collision is still under investigation," SCHP Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell said. "We are actively searching for the vehicle."

Highway Patrol and its Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team are investigating.
