Pedestrian killed on I-95 near Ormond Beach

A man walking across the southbound lanes of I-95 near Ormond Beach Sunday night was hit and killed by a vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The pedestrian was hit on I-95 south of Granada Boulevard at 8:30 p.m., troopers said.

According to FHP, a Toyota Camry driven by a 24-year-old man from Bruce Township, Missouri, and accompanied by his passenger, a 25-year-old woman from Birmingham, Missouri, was traveling south on I-95 when it hit the pedestrian.

The man was crossing the interstate west to east and walked into the path of the vehicle. He died at the scene of the crash, said FHP's Lt. Tara Crescenzi.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was not injured but the passenger was transported with minor injuries to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation, Crescenzi said.
