Pedestrian killed in Friday night hit-and-run on Murfreesboro Pike

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Murfreesboro Pike Friday night, according to Metro Nashville police.

EMS personnel responding to another call for service discovered the 50-year-old pedestrian near Wilhagen's sports bar, according to a news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and efforts to locate his family are underway.

Officials believe the man was walking on the north side of Murfreesboro Pike when a 2014 or 2015 Chevrolet Express van ran off the road and struck him. The van then fled the scene.

Murfreesboro Pike is among Nashville's deadliest corridors.

More than 50% of pedestrian deaths in Nashville occur on just seven roads — many of which are state routes — according to data collected by Vanderbilt University in cooperation with Walk Bike Nashville. Those roads include:

  • Dickerson Pike

  • Gallatin Pike

  • Murfreesboro Pike

  • Old Hickory Boulevard

  • Charlotte Pike

  • Rosa Parks Boulevard

  • Buena Vista Pike
