Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on U.S. 92 east of DeLand

A Flagler Beach man walking on U.S. 92 east of DeLand was killed after being run over by as many as three vehicles early Tuesday in a hit-and-run accident, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 23-year-old victim died at the scene of the 5:30 a.m. incident, which occurred at Brick Road, troopers said.

The 2019 Nissan Sentra that struck the pedestrian fled the scene. It was later found abandoned in DeLand and towed to FHP's evidence lot, said FHP Lt. Tara Crescenzi.

Troopers are now working on leads to identify the driver of the Sentra, who is still at large, Crescenzi said.

The Sentra was traveling west on U.S. 92 and struck the man who was walking in the inside westbound lane, Crescenzi said.

He was thrown into the outside lane of the highway where he was run over by a Chevy Silverado. There are reports that the man was hit by three vehicles in all, Crescenzi said.

The driver of the Silverado was not injured and remained on the scene, troopers said.

Anyone with information of the crash is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at 407-737-2213 or 800-423-TIPS (8477).
