Pedestrian killed in Interstate 75 crash in Knoxville identified as Ohio man

Knoxville police investigators have identified the man hit and killed the night of Jan. 26 on Interstate 75. He is 34-year-old Roland Richardson of Fairborn, Ohio, a department spokesperson said.

Officers were called to I-75 north, just south of Merchant Drive, at about 6:30 p.m. on a report that a pedestrian had been struck by at least one vehicle, the spokesperson said.

Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene. He did not have identification on him and was not positively identified for several days. It's unclear why he was in Knoxville, the spokesperson said,

A witness reported seeing Richardson lying in the roadway, according to the release,. Shortly after that, he was struck by a vehicle and the driver remained on the scene. It is believed, but unconfirmed, that Richardson had been hit by another vehicle before he was seen in the road by the witness.
