Pedestrian fatally struck by car near Mojave River bridge on Highway 18 in Victorville
A pedestrian traffic fatality on Tuesday morning in Victorville forced the partial closure of Highway 18 as sheriff’s officials investigated the incident.
Deputies at 7:25 a.m. responded to the report of a pedestrian traffic collision that occurred near the intersection of D and Eleventh streets, west of Stoddard Wells Road, sheriff's officials said.
Victorville Fire Department and American Medical Response personnel also responded to the incident.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered and pronounced deceased a 26-year-old Hispanic woman.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement officials.
The Major Accident Investigation Team discovered that the woman was struck by a vehicle in the eastbound, No. 1 lane of D Street when she attempted to cross the roadway.
Alcohol, drugs, vehicle speed and reckless driving were not factors in the collision, sheriff's officials said.

The identity of the deceased woman is pending notification of next of kin by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Division.
