Pedestrian killed while crossing Route 9 in Howell

HOWELL - A Howell resident was struck and killed while crossing Route 9 on Sunday evening, police said.

Around 7:51 p.m. Sunday, a Honda Civic driven by a Howell resident was traveling southbound on Route 9 in the area of Strickland Road when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing from west to east, Howell Police said.

The pedestrian — whose name, along with the driver's, was not released — was taken to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold Township, where he died of his injuries, according to police. The driver was uninjured.

The incident is under investigation by the Howell Township Police Department, Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team, police said.
