Pedestrian struck and killed by car on Dandridge Avenue

Knoxville police officers responded to a crash that killed a pedestrian on Dandridge Avenue near Hazen Street in the Morningside neighborhood early March 30.

At around 4:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of an unresponsive person who had apparently been hit by a car, a department spokesperson said in a press release. Knoxville Fire Department and AMR staffers attempted life-saving measures, but the victim, an adult woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed that the woman was walking on the road when the crash occurred, the release stated. The driver is cooperating with the investigation.

The identity of the woman who died is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

There have been several vehicle-related fatalities in East Knoxville in the last six months. In October, George Davis, 59, of Knoxville, was bicycling on Magnolia Avenue when he was struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene. In November, Sherman Edward Harvey Jr., 24, of Leslie, Georgia, was struck and killed by a hit and run driver, also on Magnolia Avenue.
