67-year-old woman flown to hospital after pickup hits her in Falmouth

FALMOUTH ― A woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in a pedestrian crosswalk on Main Street. She was identified as a 67-year-old Florida resident visiting Falmouth, according to the Falmouth Police Department.

The victim was in unstable and critical condition at Tufts Medical Center on Thursday, according to Falmouth Police Department Lieutenant Douglas DeCosta.

The Fire Department responded to a call at 4:08 p.m. for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the vicinity of 133 Main St., according to Falmouth Fire Capt. Robert Bergeron. A Chevy pickup was making a left turn onto Main Street from Post Office Road when the driver hit the woman, according to the police.

Bergeron said the patient was on the ground when rescue crews responded to the scene. She was transported to Falmouth Hospital and was then flown by Boston MedFlight to a regional trauma center with serious to life-threatening injuries, Bergeron said.

The pickup was operated by a 19-year-old East Falmouth man. He remained on scene and fully cooperated with the police investigation.

The Barnstable County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene to collect evidence and take photographs. The Chevy pickup was taken to the Falmouth Police Department to be secured for further examination. The incident remains under investigation.
