Pedestrian from Tallahassee killed in Jefferson County crash

A 41-year-old Tallahassee man was killed while walking down a rural Jefferson County highway Monday night.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene on U.S. Highway 19 near Elkins Road just north of Monticello at about 9:20 p.m. FHP does not identify individuals involved in crashes due to the agency's interpretation of the victim's rights measure, Marsy's Law.

Troopers determined a 29-year-old man from Monticello was driving south when he hit the pedestrian, who was walking with traffic along the white line on the side of the road.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene by the Jefferson County Fire Rescue. During the investigation, Highway 19 was closed down for three hours.
